Saturday July 17th we decided to journey to Metz France... We were looking for a flea market that Mason found on line... It was only about 60 miles from the hotel...well we found the address with the help of our GPS but nothing was there...(Oh our GPS, her name is Lucy). We drove around, asked for directions which was interesting to do in France... but still couldn't find the flea market...Oh well!!!!!!

On our way home we stoped at Lorraine American Cemetery and Memorial...
The land was given to the United States from France as a Memorial for the men that died in this area during World War II... There are 10,000 soldiers remembered in this cemetery... and it is only one of several.

This was my first time visiting a memorial like this and I can't express how it felt to look across the beautifully kept grounds that honor the men that died for our freedom... As I walked through the rows of crosses and read their names, dates and where they were from, I found myself thanking each one for fighting for my freedom... I'm glad I went, it makes one appreicate more what others have done and are still doing for us....

Sunday we went to a yard sale/estate sale that was quite fun.... the woman who passed away was a German lady who like most Germans had a house full of glass ware... I found several things I bought to re-sell when we get back in Tucson.. No Mom, I didn't find anything to keep for myself... I really don't want to pick up to many things to add to my own collections... as everyone knows, I don't need any more treasures...

After the yard sale we drove 12 miles to Burg Lichtenberg, a castle built in 1200... It is in ruins but I found it interesting to walk around and take pictures... There now is a pleasing marriage of old and new found here with a hotel built onto the remaining part of the castle.. We walked to the top of the watch tower which was several stories high and took the most amazing pictures of the country side around the castle..
As me walked, climed and huffed and puffed up lots of stairs, I said to Mason, I'm so glad to be here doing and seeing all this while I still can.

Inside the castle walls....

Yes it's me walking up more stairs...

Here I am sitting on the stairs of one of the small watch towers...

We ended our Sunday doing laundry on base, having dinner and walking down to our favorite ice cream shop in Ramstein..

Sending you all my best wishes....
