Last Saturday we went to another antique sale. This one was in a historical building.. School House Antiques. It's an old quarry house built in the 1800's. Sadly, it is in desperate need of repair.. the owner said just to repair the roof would cost one and a half million dollars and because of the poor economy in Germany the government can't help...

Every room was full of beautiful treasures... Every room was in need of repair.... We enjoyed our visit but with those beautiful treasures came a high price tag... (even on sale) . We left empty handed...

Later Saturday afternoon we were invited to our first Steinalben Festival ... July 31st... (thats the town we will live in).. There was great food, (Hahnchen...that's German for chicken and several other interesting things to eat...) live German music, lots to drink and an opportunity to gather around the local people.. (did you know the Germans wear their wedding rings on the right hand?)

This is Kanoodle, I know I didn't spell that one right...it's some kind of potatoes with a meat center and a sause..REALLY GOOD!
Lots of beer, wine and many other mixed drinks.. I tried a drink that is half cola, half beer, I'm not big on beer and the sound of mixing these two together didn't apeal to me, but it wasn't bad at all.. much better then just beer... another drink that wasn't bad was half water with gas and half wine... Who would of thought to mix these together... NOT ME!

It was fun to listen to the German music and song... They played lots of different tunes, some we knew, most we didn't... All the songs were sung in German but we still enjoyed everything about it..
The festival lasted the whole weekend.. Mason and I spent Saturday night at Steves house so we didn't have to drive back to the hotel.. He lives about three houses down from where the festival is held... German law is pretty strick about drinking and driving...
Sunday we got up talked a while with Steve, then Mason and I went back to the hotel. We didn't plan on going back to the festival on Sunday, but when we found out Sunday is dessert day.. well we had to go... there was over 50 homemade cakes to choose from...Next year Mason and I will make a special American cake to bring to the fest.... There was other foods to eat besides dessert but we came for the sweet stuff....
All the food, music and fun we enjoyed but the best part was spending time with the people and making new friends... Most of the villages have a summer festival every year.. and everyone is invited. So if you wanted too... one could go to a fest just about every weekend...
The guy in the picture is our friend Steve... and the women is Ruth ... she is German, speaks pretty good english and Steves landlord... wonderful lady... She invited us all to go on a train ride to the wine country for wine tasting fun..
Sweet dreams....
