Christmas Eve dinner at our place was excellent.. Mason and I fixed Hobo Chicken, Steve and Rebecca brought several kinds of German breads, all kinds of German cookies and wine.. After dinner we stepped over to Todd and Tracy's house to sing Christmas Carol's to them.. They had had a few drink before we came ringing the door bell, so they thought we were most excellent.. we were invited in and enjoyed their company for a bit before saying good-night to everyone and waiting for Santa...

Mason and I didn't get up until 10:30 Christmas Day.. So different from when you have kids at home.. I miss those days...
After opening stockings and presents we slid down our hill to Steve's house... Mom made Mason the perfect stocking this year.. He loved it...!
We received about 8 inches of snow Christmas Eve day and night.. it was awesome... My first white Christmas in years.
We were to be at Jim and Desera's house at 3:00 but took a side trip to Ruth's for coffee and cake.. Steve the polite one of the bunch called and told them we would be late.. What a treat it was going to Ruth's.. Her son who plays the trombone in the community band came over and before he came in the house he played White Christmas for us outside the window.. it was fabulous ..
With all the fresh fallen snow and listening to him play on the sidewalk ...WOW....
It made the day very special....

After cake and coffee ( the german coffee is really good by the way) he played a couple more Christmas songs for us inside the house.. I just have this thing for Christmas music..
Ruth's tree was small and sparsely decorated but beautiful at the same time.. She had only a few bows and Christmas balls on the tree but the beauty came from the real candles on the tree.. When Ruth lit the candles, man was the tree beautiful... I want to have a tree next year decorated the same way.. Something small but beautiful...
We left Ruth's around 4:30 and went over to Desera's for Christmas Day dinner.. Everyone brought something so there was plenty to eat.. A German tradition are these red Christmas Crackers. Everyone has one on their plate. Everyone cross's their arms, holds on to one end of the Christmas cracker, the person next to you holds the other end, so you make kind of like an unbroken chain, then you pull on the ends. The Christmas cracker pops open, and out comes a little toy and a gold paper crown that you wear during dinner... It's quite an old tradition...
There were several couples there to enjoy this great day.
Christmas was on a Saturday this year so after all the eating and getting together with friends, Mason and I still had Sunday to relax and go shopping at the BX... I, who love to go shopping the day after Christmas couldn't have been more disappointed... I guess in Germany they don't believe in after Christmas sales... I came home with very little...
Then it was back to work for 4 days until New Years... I wish Christmas and New Years could be on a Friday every year... love those three day weekends... anyway, we went to Steve's house for dinner on New Years Eve. Seveal people joined us later to ring in the New Year... Here in Germany they don't celebrate the 4th of July, so fireworks are just as big for the Germans on New Years Eve as they are for us on the 4th of July...Everyone in our village had fireworks to lite.. from the small ones to the big ones.. it was quite the celebration....!
That brings us to today... Sunday Jan 2nd.. I spent the day decorating Valentines Day cookies.. yes I said Valentines Day... Mason went to help a friend with his car.. When Mason got home we went for a walk and found a place here in our village that you can feed the deer.. It's like a feeding station but I think the deer belong to someone.. they are totally fenced in in a small field.
We brought them bread that we had saved for them. Took lots of pictures and walked home..
that brings you up to this very moment that I'm sitting here telling you my stories...
I hope everyone had a wonderful and safe Holiday. But also had a whole lot of fun...
sleep well....XXXOO
