Christmas Markets in Germany are a time when family and friends jump in their cars and drive to the many Villages large and small to ring in the Christmas season... Yes, even the very tiny villages will have a Christmas Market. It will probably only be a couple craft booths and a couple bake sale booths, but alway a booth selling Gluhwein... that's a german wine that is served hot.. It's pretty good and the best thing is, the glass keeps your hands warm..

The markets usually start around 4:00 in the afternoon and go to around 9:00 at night, usually just on the weekends..The first two that we went to, I was not impressed... not sure what I expected, but just wasn't feeling the whole Christmas spirit... but then we went to one on Saturday and it renewed my thinking about Christmas Markets... The village name is Deidesheim.

Steve invited us to go with him, his wife (yes, she is finally here in Germany) and Sarah.. I almost didn't go.. thought, oh right, another Christams Market.. Steve and I both had the same idea, if this one isn't any better then the last two, we weren't going to any more of them... There was around 100 booths selling all kinds of craft itmes, food and of coarse Gluhwein...

There were Christmas lights, old buildings decorated and several nice restaurants (which I have to tell you, one wouldn't serve us because we are Americans).. We did find a place to sit down and eat.. the restaurant was nice and the food was very good... sometimes things happen for a reason!

Sunday I spent the day decorating Christmas cookies.. I've never used royal icing, pastry bags and decorating tips before. It took me quite awhile, but it was fun.. I want to be a pro at it by the time I go back home.. Some of the cookies are cute, some not so cute.. my icing was a little runny for the piping, but great for the flooding.. oh well, practice, practice practice....

For a change it's time for me to go to bed... wish me sweet dreams......
